Samastipur: A day long dharna was staged on Monday at Samastipur to protest the recent killing of Siwan journalist Rjdeo Ranjan, delay in justice to his family and deterioration in law and order in the state. Several mediapersons and leaders of different political parties participated in it.
BJP national spokesman and former union minister Shahnawaz Hussain, Uma Prasad Bajpayee, president, Bihar Pradesh Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, and Shashibhushan Sharma, general secretary, Rajkiya Lok Upkram Karamchari Mahasangh were prominent among those participating in Dharna. Most of the leaders alleged that criminals were on prowl in Bihar as the government and administration had failed to enforce the rule of law. Journalists were being killed and threatened with dire consequences for their commitment to their profession and it had become very difficult for them to right the truth due to the fear of gangsters. The dharna, which was organised under the auspices of Bihar Working Journalists Union, Samastipur unit, demanded adequate compensation to the family of the slain journalist, immediate arrest of criminals involved in the crime, security to mediapersons and restoration of law and order in the state.
