Patna : Reigning Asian Games champion and World No 10 Jonatan Christie, 21, Indonesia, stunned World No 1 and top seed Kento Momota, 24, Japan, in straight games in the second round to advance to the quarter-finals of Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2019, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 level badminton tournament, on April 4, 2019.

Jonatan Christie also known as ‘Jojo’ beat reigning World Champion Momota 22-20, 21-15 in 46 minutes at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Christie won 43 rallies in the match to 35 by Momota. He also won 6 consecutive points to 5 by Momota. Momota, however, still leads Christie 2-1 head to head. Christie has so far won 4 career titles.

Reigning Olympic champion Chen Long, 30, China, also advanced to the quarter-finals of the tournament beating World No 17 Kantaphon Wangcharoen, 20, Thailand, in the second round. Former champion Chen Long, the 4th seed, defeated Kantaphon 22-20, 21-13 in 60 minutes in the second round on April 4.

Chen won 43 rallies in the match to 33 by Kantaphon. He won 5 consecutive points to 3 by Kantaphon. Chen Long leads Kantaphon 3-1 head to head. Chen had won this tournament in 2015.
