Ara : Jharkhand police with the help of their Bhojpur counterpart arrested an RPF personnel Pawan Kumar Singh from village Karath under Tarari police station in Bhojpur district on March 21, 2020, in connection with firing at five members of a family killing three of them with his service revolver at Railway Colony, Barkakana in Ramgardh district in Jharkhand eight months ago. Police also seized the service revolver used in the firing. Jharkhand police took Pawan Kumar Singh with them to Jharkhand.
SHO, Tarari police station, said that Pawan Kumar Singh of village Karath was posted at Barkakana railway station on August 17, 2019. In a drunken stage, he entered the house of a railway employee Ashok Ram around 8pm at Barkakana Railway Colony in Ramgardh district in Jharkhand and pumped bullets into the bodies of Ashok Ram, his wife Leelawati Devi, a pregnant daughter Meena Devi, son Sanjay Ram, and younger daughter Rajani and escaped from the spot.
Hearing the gunshot sound, the locals reached the spot and the rushed all the injured to the Railway hospital where Ashok Ram, Leelawati Devi, and pregnant daughter Meena Devi succumbed to their injuries. Though, Sanjay Ram and Rajani alias Priyanka were injured but they survived. An FIR was lodged with Barkakana rail police against Pawan Kumar Singh on the statement of Rajani alias Priyanka, daughter of the deceased, and the Jharkhand police was in search to arrest him.
Rajani alias Priyanaka had told police that Pawan Kumar Singh lived in front of her house and took milk from her house. She also said that Pawan Kumar Singh had come to take milk in the evening on the day the incident took place and had a tiff with her father and so her father refused to give him milk. Infuriated at this, Pawan Kumar Singh shot at all the five members of the family.
