Saharsa: Gold and silver jewellery worth about Rs 3 lakh and Rs 80,000 cash was stolen from the Masomat Pokhar colony residence of a BSNL officer Keshav Chandra Jha under Sadar police station, Saharsa, by three thieves on February 3 night. Jha managed to catch hold of one of them but he attacked him and escaped.

A police chowki located on Krishna Mandir premises is just 50 metre away from Jha’s house. Jha is an Accounts Officer at Saharsa office of BSNL. Police reached the spot after Jha lodged complaint with them. Jha said he had gone to Purnia to attend a marriage and returned on February 3 night. But, he was shocked to see his house open. When he entered inside the house, he saw three thieves with their faces covered escaping with stolen goods. He caught one of  the thieves but he too managed to escape after attacking him leaving his shawl and sandales behind. Although police pressed into service a sniffer dog but are yet to arrest any thief.
