Patna: The JD(U) on January 14 evening cancelled the lunch state Bashisht Naranha Singh was to host on January 15 following the boat tragedy near NIT Ghat, Patna, in which 20 persons died on Saturday.

Union law and justice and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, in a statement on Janurary 14 night, asked the state  government to arrange for immediate relief to the families of the victims of boat tragedy. Ravishankar, who reached here on January 14 evening, said the people admitted tin hospital should be given best possible treatment.

Leader of opposition in Bihar assembly Prem Kumar on criticised the government for poor management at Sambalpur diara Kite festival organised by tourism development corporation. He said several people lost their lives due to negligence as the government did not make any arrangement to bring them back to Patna. Entire government and administration was busy in making arrangements at RJD president Lalu Prasad’s Chuda-Dahi party.
Nand Kishore Yadav, senior BJP MLA from Patnacity, too condemned the government’s inaction and said against rules private boats were used to ferry the people from Diara. Against the capacity of ten, 40 people were on the boat and no rescue measure was started even after four hours.
Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha,president of Jan Adhikar Party, said the government failed in arranging relief and rescue immediately as the administration was busy in R JD and JD (U)’s Makar sankranti parties.
