Patna : All internet service providers have been directed by Saran district administration to stop their services in the trouble torn district with immediate effect.

DM of Saran Deepak Anand , in a notification issued on Monday, said ban will, however, not be applicable on the banks and government offices. The directives have been issued to the internent service providers like BSNL, Idea, Reliance, Airtel, Aircell, Vodafone, Uninor and others. Circulation of SMS and MMS too have been banned and the companies have been told to keep the social media networks like  facebook,whatsapp, google etc off till further orders in the district. Last week, communal tension had erupted in the district following circulation of MMS of some deities  in bad taste. This had led to burning of a religious place of a particular community and arson at the district headquarters where some shops were also set afire.

The DM also extended prohibitory orders until further order in the entire distict till further orders apprehending breach of peace during the festival of Shrawan. Meetings and processions have been banned. The DM has ordered closure of all schools-both private and government. Leaves of all government officers and employees have been cancelled and those on leave have been asked to resume thier duty with immediate effect.

Senior police officers including an additional DG, two IGs and others are camping at Chhapra from where more than 50 people have been arrested. In neighbouring Siwan district too, all block development and circle officers have been asked to remain alert and prevent spread of rumours. The DM on Monday said that situation had returned to normal in Saran and shops are back to business.
