Patna : India beat Sri Lanka (SL) by 7 wickets in the 44th match of CWC at Headingly, Leeds, UK,on July 6, 2019, night, with opener Rohit Sharma, the Hit-Man, scoring 103 in 94 balls hitting 14 fours and 2 sixes, a record five centuries in a single edition of a Cricket World Cup and overall 27th ODI century, and his opening partner Lokesh Rahul scoring 111 in 118 balls with 11 fours and a six. Chasing a target of 265, India scored 265/3 in 43.3 overs.

Rohit has now scored six centuries in the World Cup equalling the record of Sachin Tendulkar. Rohit fell to Kasun Rajitha while Rahul fellĀ  Lasith Malinga. Rishabh Pant fell to Isuru Udana for 4. India need 8 runs more to win the match. Rohit and Rahul added 189 runs for the first wicket. It was for the first time that both the openers of India scored centuries in the same match. They had also added 180 runs for the first wicket in the previous match against Bangladesh. Captain Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 34 and Hardik Pandya was batting on 7.

Earlier opting to bat after winning the toss, Sri Lanka (SL) had scored 264/7 in 50 overs with all-rounder Angelo Mathews scoring 113 in 128 balls hitting 10 fours and 2 sixes and Lahiru Thirimanne scoring 53 in 68 balls with 4 fours. Openers : Dimuth Karunaratne ( captain) and Kusal Perera (wk), scored 10 and 18 runs respectively. Avishka Fernando scored 20 while Kusal Mendis made 3. Dhananjaya de Silva remained unbeaten on 29 in 36 balls with 1 four.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah took 3/37 in 10 overs while Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each. Rohit Sharma was declared Player of the Match.
