Patna : Third seed Rafael Nadal, 33, Spain, brushed aside World No 72 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 34, France, to enter the 4th round of Wimbledon Championships, London, on July 6, 2019. Nadal, who won the Wimbledon singles title in 2008 & 2010, beat Tsonga 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 in the third round at All England Club, London. Tsonga had reached Wimbledon semi-finals in 2011 and 2012 besides reaching the Australian Open final in 2008.
Both Nadal and Tsonga fired 11 Aces each in the match. Nadal, however, won 5 break points in the match to none by Tsonga. The Spaniard also won 5 games in a row in the match. Nadal’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 91 % & 74%) was much higher than that of Tsonga ( 69 % & 41 %). Tsonga has won 17 career titles.
But, World No 94 Tennys Sandgren, 27, USA, stunned World No 10 and 12th seed Fabio Fognini, 32, Italy, beating him in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in the 3rd round in a major upset in the tournament. Sandgren won 4 break points to 2 by Fognini. Sandgren won 3 games each in a row to 2 by Fognini. Sandgren won 79 service points to 67 by the Italian. The American fired 13 Aces in the match to 5 by Fognini.
