Patna : India beat Australia by 26 runs in the first ODI at M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on September 17, 2017, leading 1-0 in the five match ODI series. Australia had to score 164 runs in 21 overs  under D/L method but coould score only 137/9. For India Yajuvendra Chahal took 3/30 in five overs while Hardik Pandta took 2/28  in four overs and Kuldip Yadav 2/33, also in four overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar also took a wicket each.

Electing to bat first, India scored 281/7 in 50 overs with all rounder Padya scoring 83 and M S Dhoni 79 runs. Skipper Virat Kohli was out on zero. Rain delayed the start of Australia’s reply. But, they were never in contention losing wickets at regular interval. Glen Maxwell scored 39 runs. Australian captain scored just one run while David Warner made 25. James Faulkner remained not out on 32.
