Patna : India were 419/6 in their 1st innings over one hour into the second session of play on Day 2 in the 3rd test against South Africa (SA) at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi, Jharkhand, on October 20, 2019, with opener Rohit Sharma scoring 212 in 255 balls hitting 28 fours and 6 sixes, his maiden test double century, and Ajinkya Rahane scoring 117 in 192 balls with 17 fours and a six.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is batting on 32 while Ravichandran Ashwin is batting on 2. Wriddhiman Saha (wk) fell to spinner George Linde for 24.

Rohit, the Hit-Man, who had reached his century with a six on October 19, 2019, also reached his double century with a six off fast bowler Lungi Ngidi. In fact, he hit Nigidi for two sixes in that over. He fell to fast bowler Kagiso Rabada for 212. Rohit had scored 150 in 199 balls and thereafter accelerated the scoring rate in a brilliant display of batsmanship. He added 267 runs for the 4th wicket with Ajinkya Rahane. Rohit also added 64 runs with Jadeja for the 5th wicket.

Rohit became the third Indian batsman to score double century in the series after opener Mayank Agarwal (1st test) and captain Virat Kohli (2nd test). He has so far scored 529 runs in the series with 19 sixes.

Resuming at their overnight score of 224/4, India lost the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane at 306. Rahane fell to spinner George Linde making it 306/4. Rahane reached the century mark in 169 balls. India scored 133 runs in the first session of the play losing only one wicket.
