India 100/4 at lunch aginst S Africa in Wanderers test

Patna : India were 100/4 in 40.5 overs in their innings at lunch on the third day of the third cricket test against South Africa at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesbug, South Africa, on January 26, 2018, with Captain Virant Kohli batting on 27 in 49 balls hitting 4 fours. Ajinkya Rahane was yet to come to the crease as opener Murli Vijay was out with just one ball left to the lunch on 25 in 127 balls hitting just 1 four. India are leading by 93 runs with 6 wickets in hand.

Murli and Kohli were involved in a 43 run partnership for fourth wicket on an extremely difficult and to some extent dangerous wicket. Murli showed tremendous patience during his stay on the crease leaving nearly all the balls outside the off stump. He was out to a beautiful yorker from Kagiso Rabada. Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 49/1, India lost the wicket of Lokesh Rahul at 51 and that of Cheteshwar Pujara at 57. Rahul made 16 in 44 balls hitting 2 fours while Pujara was out for 1. Vernon Philander took the wicket of Rahul while Pujara was out to Morne Morkel.

India had made 187 in their first innings while South Africa made 194 runs a lead of seven runs. On a pitch where survival is that much difficult a lead of  even 160 would be considered good to bowl out the opposition.
