Gopalganj: A Homeguard jawan Bhageshwar Manjhi, deployed for duty at Barhamiya Chowk under Sidhwaliya police station late on  January 8 night, was mowed down by a speeding four-wheeler.

Police said that Bhageshwar Manjhi, a native of village Shampur under Mohammadpur police station, was deployed at Marhamiya Check post. As the jawan was crossing NH-28 around 11 pm, a speeding Bolero crushed him to death and sped away from there. On getting information, Sidhwaliya police station SHO Arvind Kumar Yadav reached the spot and sent the body for autopsy.

As the news of jawan’s death reached local police station, a pal of gloom also descended there. All the officials of the police station paid tribute to the jawan. Later, a guard of honour was given to the jawan at Homeguard Maidan at Thawe. The officials of Homeguard on the occasion assured of all possible assistance to the deceased’s family members. Those who were present on the occasion included DSP Ashok Kumar, Inspector Krishna Prasad, Sidhwaliya ps SHO Arvind Kumar Yadav and a large number of Homeguard jawans.
