Gopalganj: The court of ADJ-I, Gopalganj, on January 9 sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment (RI) four accused in a case related to atrocity on dalit. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 each on the convict.

It may be mentioned here that on December 26, 2011, a dalit Ramsihasan Ram was sitting on the door of his house at village Rupanchap under Barauli police station. Four persons including Virendra Sah reached there and pushed Ram from his chair, abused him and assaulted him. They also used abusive language based on his caste.

The victim later lodged an FIR with Harijan police station in Hajipur (Vaishali).  The police submitted chargesheet after taking much time. On Monday, hearing the argument of Special PP Gopi Chandra Yadav and defence counsel Ramesh Chandra Srivastava, the court found Virendra Sah, Sachchidanand Sah, Sanmati Devi and Gajendra Sah guilty and awarded them RI.
