Ara: Electric wires hanging from poles in Bhojpur district need immediate attention. So far several unwary persons and cattleheads have been electrocuted after coming into contact with a snapped electric wires hanging dangerously from electric poles at several places. Wires hanging in several localities of Ara town, some close to schools, densely populated areas, have failed to draw the attention of the authorities concerned.

The apathetic attitude of the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) is evident from the fact that 33K live wires cover a number of houses at Godana road where with passage of time roads have been and the electric wires are hanging just about 10feet high threatening lives of people. Residents of the area besides those of several villages keep resorting to agitation and the authorities concerned assure to change the rusted wires and raise the height of the live wires but to no avail so far. Sources said about 18 km long electric wire was supplied to the power company but whenever the wires of an area snap, inferior quality wire is supplied that snaps again after some time. The state government had ordered to replace the snapped wires with new ones but this has not happened.

Executive Engineer, SBPDCL, Raj Kumar said he had raised the issue several times during meetings with the senior s of the power company but nothing concrete has been done so far. He lamented shortage of manpower. Whenever any incident of wire snap is reported, power supply of the area is immediately stopped. He said if anyone meets with an an accident due fault of the power company, he/ she is entitled to a compensation of Rs 4 lakh after departmental inquiry if an FIR is lodged.
