Patna : Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) on Monday said it would closely monitor follow-up action by the MCI and competent authorities against the doctors and hospitals allegedly involved in removal of uterus of some women and progress in investigation of criminal cases registered in this context.
In the context of BHRC order relating to removal of uterus of women in Bihar, certain reports appeared in the media on Monday quoting IMA (Bihar Chapter) authorities that the doctors had not been given adequate opportunity of being heard by BHRC before recommending action against them to the MCI.
BHRC member Neelmani said that a comprehensive inquiry was conducted by the state government into the matter at the behest of BHRC. The BHRC has been informed by the government that certain unwanted surgeries were performed which resulted into removal of uterus of the w0men concerned and MCI has been approached for action against certain doctors. The government has also informed that it has taken action against certain hospitals and lodged FIRs pertaining to cases of fake surgeries.
The comprehensive report filed by the government has been accepted by the BHRC, said Neelmani. “It will not be proper for the Commission to observe anything about the conduct of said doctors. Their ommissions and commissions, if any, will be gone into by MCI,” he said.“It is expected from MCI to look into the matter thoroughly, fairly and squarely,” he added. If anyone feels that he has not been given adequate opportunity of being heard, he can represent before the authorities concerned.
