New Delhi : With an aim to promoting “Ease of Doing Business “, the Government is going to facilitate simplification of process of compliances that are required to be completed for obtaining certification at Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

As a step towards that, a first-of-its-kind workshop on “Easing Compliance for Certifications” is  being organised on March 3, 2021,  jointly by Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, along with the Department of Consumer Affairs and Bureau of Indian Standards. This workshop will facilitate closer interaction between various sectors of industry and the apex national standards body. A number of top Industry leaders are also expected to join both physically as well as virtually. The workshop, which is being held at BIS headquarters, will focus on various aspects of standards formulations, conformity assessment processes, and requirements of testing.

Piyush Goyal Union Consumer Affairs & Food and Public Distribution, Railways and Commerce and Industry Minister, will address the Workshop. This workshop assumes significance in the backdrop of all round efforts of the government to attain ‘Atmanirbharta’ in manufacturing. It will also focus on making Indian Standards attain global standards in all spheres to ensure that “Make in India” mission achieve its objectives, according toa PIB release.

The interaction planned with the industries on March 3 is to understand the problems facing the Industries, particularly the MSMEs, Start Ups, and small enterprises and take their suggestions for building a strong and vibrant system that encourages and facilitates better adoption of Indian standards across products and services for scale of economies and for consumer satisfaction. The focus of the Department of Consumer Affairs is to ensure Quality and quantity of Products, processes and services to the consumers by way of BIS Act, 2016, and Legal Metrology Act, 2009.

Through the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, the objective is to enable consumers to feel secure and empowered to make informed choices; ensure fair, equitable and consistent outcomes for consumers; and facilitate timely and effective grievance redressal. In a bid to ensure best Quality and Quantity of Products and servicesto the Indian consumers, the department has for the first time reached out proactively to the industries, together with the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.
