Gopalganj Sadar hospital doctors on strike

Gopalganj: Doctors at Gopalganj Sadar Hospital proceeded on strike paralyzing the functioning of the Emergency Ward after one of their colleagues was assaulted by the family members of a kid, who died during treatment there late on Thursday evening.

Eyewitnesses said that a five year old kid, a native of village Jaltoliya under Barhariya police station in neighbouring Siwan, was brought to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital after being bitten by a snake. Seeing the serious condition of the kid, Dr Kaisar Javed, on duty in Emergency Ward, started treating the child. Dr Javed, however, could not save the child. As the news of kid’s death spread on the hospital premises, his family members rang up their relatives asking them to reach Sadar Hospital. They assaulted the doctor on duty. The cops, who were deployed on the hospital premises, were not present there thus giving a chance to them to damage property in doctors’ chamber and furniture in Emergency Ward.Police have arrested two persons in this connection.

On getting information, Town police station SHO Santosh Kumar along with RAF men reached there and chased away the mob and in the process also caned some of the attendants of other patients. Seeing the situation getting out of control, additional force from neighbouring police stations were called to control the situation. Some of the doctors said that they informed Gopalganj DM Rahul Kumar and Civil Surgeon Dr Madheshwar Prasad before going on strike.
