Gopalganj: The sudden strike by the doctors at Gopalganj Sadar Hospital late on Thursday evening cost the life of a youth, who had sustained bullet injuries at Sasamusa bazaar under Kuchaikot police station. Armed criminals opened fire at Abhimanyu Sharma (19), son of Vashisht Sharma of village Nechua Khas Jalalpur, when he was sitting at his cellphone shop at Sasamusa Bazaar late on Thursday evening. The injured youth was taken to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital where the doctors were on strike. Abhimanyu died there without getting any treatment.

Sources at the Sadar Hospital said that Civil Surgeon Dr Madheshwar Prasad Sharma along with Dr P C Prasad and Dr (Capt.) S K Jha reached the hospital about half an hour late. After the incident at Sasamusa Bazaar, the shop-owners downed their shutter in panic and started running helter skelter to save their lives. However, the injured youth’s relatives seized the bike of the criminals though they managed to escape.

Some of the relatives said that Abhimanyu was a student of Intermediate. They said that the criminals barged inside the shop and opened fire at him from behind and escaped. “The injured youth could not get timely attention at the Sadar Hospital as the doctors were on strike,” they said. Later, Kuchaikot ps SHO Mahendra Kumar reached the spot.
