Gopalganj: Agitated over the manhandling of a colleague at Manjha, the doctors at Gopalganj Sadar Hospital went on a lightning strike after locking the gate of the out patient department (OPD) on Monday. Due to the strike, the working in emergency unit also remained affected for several hours.

Complete chaos prevailed on the Sadar Hospital premises as over 500 patients, who had got themselves registered for treatment, had to return disappointed. Later, the doctors started work in the emergency unit after the intervention of Gopalganj Civil Surgeon Dr Madheshwar Prasad Sharma though the OPD remained closed.

The agitated doctors said that Dr. Pramod Kumar, posted at Manjha Primary Health Centre (PHC), was manhandled by some anti-social elements when he reached hospital after taking lunch. The doctors said that despite repeated pleas, the accused are still at large. The doctors alleged that the accused have now started threatening to kidnap the said doctor. They made it clear that if the district administration failed to provide them security, they would not be able to treat the patients.

The doctors have given two days time to the police for arrest of the accused or they would proceed on indefinite strike.
