Aurangabad: Police on Monday arrested two persons in connection with a murder about two months back at Erka Colony under Amba police station in Aurangabad district. The arrests followed raids conducted by a joint police team of Amba and Kutumba police stations on Amba-Deo road on secret information.

Aurangabad SP Babu Ram said arrested persons were identified as Nandan Mahto and Anil Kumar Mehta, both natives of the district. He said that police also recovered two countrymade pistols and two live cartridges from their possession.

The SP said that that about two months ago some criminals had shot dead one Md. Meer Hasan near Erka Colony. He said that raids were conducted on suspected hideouts of the criminals after the killing that resulted in arrest of the accused on Monday. He said that the name of one Mohd. Kasab had also cropped up in the killing. Kasab was arrested by Rohtas police in connection with a loot case there, the SP said adding that all the arrested persons had criminal antecedents and were involved in several criminal cases in and around the district.

The SP also claimed to have cracked a cash loot case of Rafiganj saying two persons had been arrested in this connection. A group of criminals had looted Rs. 1.80 lakh cash from the Electricity office at Rafiganj on April 29. Soon after the incident, Aurangabad DM Kawal Tanuj and SP Babu Ram had rushed to the spot. The SP said that the arrested persons had been identified as Papu Paswan and Nagendra Paswan. He said that the police also recovered a two-wheeler from their possession.
