Gopalganj: The family members of an Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Virendra Ojha on Monday sat on dharna with the body of ASI at Gopalganj policelines on Monday seeking stern action against Major Ahmad Raza holding him responsible for his death. Several cops of the policelines also joined the agitation.

It may be mentioned here that Ojha died during treatment late on October 1 night. His family members alleged that Ojha died due to torture allegedly by Raza.

On getting information, Gopalganj DM Rahul Kumar and SDPO Manoj Kumar reached the spot. Taking serious note of the allegations levelled against Raza, Gopalganj DM ordered a magisterial inquiry into it. The allegations would be probed by a three member committee led by an ADM rank officer and SDPO. After that Ojha’s family members agreed for autopsy.

The family members of Ojha, a native of village Amhi Banke in Kateya, said that he reached policelines on Saturday where he had a heated exchange with Raza, who pushed Ojha. An injured ASI was admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital in a serious condition where the attending doctors referred him to Gorakhpur Medical College. He, however, succumbed to his injuries midway. As the news of Ojha reached Gopalganj, major fled away from there.

The deceased’s family members reached Gopalganj policelines with the body at around 11.30 pm in night and levelled allegations against Raza.
