Patna : Third seed Cristian Garin, 23, Chile, beat qualifier Gianluca Mager, 25, Italy, in straight sets in final to lift the singles title at Rio Open, an ATP Tour 500 event played on outdoor clay courts at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 23, 2020, late night. It is Garin’s first ATP 500 series title. He had won Cordoba Open title in Argentina on February 10, 2020.

Garin, who has jumped to World No 18 in ATP Rankings following his victory at Rio de Janeiro, beat Gianluca Mager in a tough contest 7-6, 7-5 in 1 hr 34 minutes in final to win the singles title. Garin won 3 break points in the match to 2 by Mager. He also won 4 games ina row to 3 by the Italian. Garin fired 8 Aces in the match to 6 by Mager, who had stunned stunned top seed & World No 4 Dominic Thiem, 26, Austria, in quarter-finals on February 22, 2020. The Chilean, in all, won 82 points to 77 by the Italian.

Garin had defeated 5th seed Borna Coris, 23, Croatia, 6-4, 7-5 in semi-finals while Mager had defeated lucky loser Attila Balasz, Hungary, in a three-set thriller 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 in SFs.
