Gandak water enters seven blocks of West Champaran

Bagaha:  Gandak flood water has entered over 40 panchayats under seven blocks of West Champaran district affecting a population of around 1.5 lakh people. The seven blocks are: Piparasi, Madhubani, Bhitaha, Thakaraha, Jogapatti, Bairia and Nautan blocks. Although the flood water was gradually receding at Valmikinagar  Gandak barrage but there was no change in flood situationon Wednesday.

West Champaran DM Lokesh kumar Singh has assigned different officials to carry out relief works by camping in the affected areas. SDM Bagaha Dharmendar Kumar has been made incharge of relief works for Bagaha-1, Piparasi and Madhubani blocks while Deputy Collector Land Reforms (DCLR), Bagaha, Gyanchand Yadav, will take care of Bhitaha and Thakaraha blocks.  District welfare officer , West Champaran,  MohdWaris Khan, SDM, Bettiah, Sunil Kumar and ADM, Bettiah, Nurul Hoque have been will handle situation and carry out relief works in Jogapatti, Bairia and Nautan blocks respectively.The flood water has started spreading over to new areas like Kailashnagar, Goriapatti and Poorhouse localities under Bagaha Nagar Parishad.

Meanwhile, Bagaha-1 block RJD unit President Lallan Yadav claimed that a swollen Gandak had already inundated Sisahi and Chiurahi Diara panchayats under Madhubani block damaging the standing crops. He said Gandak water has also entered Lagunanaha, Bathawaria and Bibi Banakatwa panchayats and a large number people had taken shelter on the left bank of Champaran embankment with their children and cattle. They were facing acute crisis of food and fodder. The people of several flood affected villages were finding it difficult to move out of their  villages in the absence of countryboats.

SDM, Bagaha, Dharmendar Kumar said that flood situation was by and large under control ” We have alerted local people about the possible danger of the flood,” he said.
