Gopalganj: Noted freedom fighter of Gopalganj Ramavatar Ram, 102,  passed away late on December 20  night at his native village Bhopatpur under Kuchaikot police station of the district. He was the last freedom fighter in the district as this year another freedom fighter Batukeshwar Pandey, a native of village Kotwa under Barauli block, passed away at village Brindawan under Uchkagaon police station on October 24.

Ramavatar was a true Gandhian and was also associated with Salt agitation launched by Mahatma Gandhi. In 1942, he was arrested by the British government in Siwan and was released from jail after the country achieved independence. His family members said that on December 20 night, he went to sleep after having his meal. When he failed to wake up on Wednesday morning, his family members reached his room and found him dead.

On getting information, a large number of people assembled at his house. Later, Kuchaikot CO Amit Ranjan also reached there with cops. The last rites was performed at the village. The villagers decided to construct a memorial in his memory.
