Gopalganj: Hearing on the bail petition of one of the accused of Khajurbanni liquor tragedy Kailasho Devi started in the court of the District and Sessions Judge, Gopalganj,  on December 21. The bail petitions of the five accused were earlier rejected by the other courts.

In his plea, defence lawyer Vinay Kumar Mishra argued that the police did not recover a single drop of liquor from the house of his client. He said that police could not even seize any material for preparing liquor from her house. The local police in order to save the skin of mafias dragged her name in the case, he argued adding that no proof had been given by the police against his client either in the case diary or in the compliant.

However, Special Public Prosecutor Ravi Bhushan Srivastava said that altogether 21 persons had died while several others were taken ill after consuming liquor by the accused in Khajurbanni. He said that the family members of the victims are still waiting for justice.

The court after hearing the arguments fixed the next date of hearing on January 6, 2017, and asked for records of the case from the lower courts.
