Nawada: Five children including 4 girls were drowned to death in two separate incidents in Nawada district on Sunday evening. While four girls were drowned in Tarakol dam under Kauakol police station, 70 km from Nawada town, one boy was drowned in a village pond of Mangura village under Kadirganj police outpost of Nawada police station. While expert divers, summoned from adjacent Jamui district, fished out the bodies of the four girls, the villagers found the body of the boy floating in the pond after a frenetic search operation.

According to reports, around a dozen girls in the age group of 7-10 years and belonging to Turiadih village under Lalpur panchayat of Kauakol block, had gone out to collect firewood on Sunday afternoon. Later, they decided to take bath in the deep waters of Tarakol dam. Four of the girls ventured further only to be drowned. Kauakol police with the help of divers from adjoining Garhi village in Jamui district fished out the bodies of the drowned girls who were identified as Nirmala Kumari, Kanchan Kumari, Saraswathi Kumari and Chandni Kumari.

In another incident, Vikki, the 10 year old maternal grandson of Rajendra Chuhan of Mangura village had strayed out while the rest of his unsuspecting family members were engrossed in paddy transplantation. The boy was sucked in the pond and drowned.
