Patna : An FIR has been lodged against BJP candidate from Kishanganj Assembly Constituency (AC) Sweety Singh and Bihar BJP President Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, MP from Paschimi Champaran in North Bihar, for allegedly violating the model code of conduct (MCC). Bypolls to Kishanganj and four other ACs in Bihar will be held on October 21, 2019, as the incumbent MLAs were elected to Parliament in the Lok Sabha polls.

The FIR was lodged with Sadar police station, Kishanganj, on October 19, 2019, evening, following a written complaint by Sadar Circle Officer, Kishanganj, Shafi Ahmad, according to SDM Shanawaz Ahmad Niyazi. The complaint was lodged after a video surfaced on social media allegedly showing Jaiswal asking traders to close their business establishments on the polling day and promising to pay Rs 500 to each of their staff members, according to SDM, Kishanganj.

The Bihar BJP Chief Sanjay Jaiswal allegedly made the remarks during a meeting with the local traders on October 17, 2019. at the residence of Kishanganj Municipal Council vice chairperson Aanchi Devi.
