Patna : World No 3 and winner of 20 Grand Slam singles title Roger Federer, 37, Switzerland, World No 7 Kei Nishikori, 29, Japan, World No 252 Nicolas Mahut, 37, France, World No 28 Stan Wawrinka, 34, Switzerland, and World No 32 Laslo Djere, 23, Serbia, entered the men’s singles 3rd round of French Open on May 29, 2019.

Federer, the 3rd seed and 2009 French Open champion, beat World No 144 Oscas Otte, 25, Germany, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in the 2nd round at Roland Garros, Paris, France. He broke Otte’s service 3 times in the match besides winning 3 games in a row. Federer fired 5 Aces in the match to 4 by Otte. Federer won 62 service points to 50 by Otte.

World No 252 Nicolas Mahut, a doubles specialist, beat World No 54 Philipp Kohlschreiber, 35, Germany, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in the 2nd round. Mahut broke Kohlschreiber’s service 5 times in the match while the latter could break his service only once. Mahut won 4 games in a row to 2 by Kohlschreiber. Kohlschreiver fired 6 Aces in the match to 2 by Mahut.

Wawrinka, the 2015 French Open Champion, beat World No 37 Cristian Garin, 22, Chile, 6-1, 6-4, 6-0 in the 2nd round. Wawrinka broke Garin’s service 6 times in the match besides winning 7 games in a row. Wawrinka fired 7 Aces in the match to 2 by Garin.

Djere beat World No 109 Alexei Popyrin, 19, Australia, 6-4, 7-6, 6-4 in the 2nd round.Djere broke Popyrin’s service twice in the match besides winning 3 games in a row. Popyrin though served 6 Aces in the match to 2 by Djere.

Nishikori beat World No 82 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 34, France, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to enter the 3rd round. Tsonga though fired 7 Aces in the match. Nishikori broke Tsonga’s service 6 times while the latter broke his service 4 times. Nishikori won 5 games in a row to 3 by Tsonga.
