Patna : England defeated India by 60 runs in the 4th cricket at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, UK, to win the five-test series 3-1. Chasing a target of 245 runs to win the match, India were all out for just 184 after tea on the 4th day of the match with Captain Virat Kohli scoring 58 in 130 ball with 4 fours and Ajinkya Rahane scoring 51 in 159 ball with just 1 four. Spinner Ravichandra Ashwin scored 25 in 36 ball with 2 fours and a six and was the last man out.

Earlier, openers Shikhar Dhawan and Lokesh Rahul were out for 17 and Zero while the first innings centurion Cheteswar Pujara swas out for 5. India were 22/3. But, then Kohli and Rahane steadied the innings with a 101 run partnership for the 4th wicket. Hardik Pandya and Ishant Sharma were out for duck while wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant made 18 with 2 fours and a six.

For England, spinner Moeen Ali, who had taken 5 wickets in the first innings, took 4/71 in the second innings too. James Anderson and Ben Stokes took two wickets each. Stuart Broad and Sam Curran took one wicket each.

India’s pathetic batting display in a match where they were in a position to win is definitely a cause of concern. After all, on the same wicket England made 271 in their second innings. India had also lost the first test in a similar manner.

Why India are not playing Rohit Sharma in test matches regularly is surprising. They are giving so many chances to Lokesh Rahul and Rahane though.
