Patna : World No 9 in ATP rankings Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, beat World No 5 and 2017 finalist Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, 7-6 in the fourth round of US Open championship 2018 at Flushing Meadows, New York, to enter the quarter-finals of the tournament. Thiem had reached final of French Open 2018.

Both the players fired 7 Aces in the match. Thiem committed 4 double faults to 2 by Anderson. Thiem’swinning percentage on both his first and second serve was much better than that of Anderson. Thiem also won 3 break points. He also won 5 games in a row in the match.

World No 1 Rafael  Nadal, 32, Spain, was leading by two sets in his fourth round match against World No 37 Nicoloz Basilashvili, 26, Georgia. Nadal won the first two sets at 6-3, 6-3. The third set went to the tie-breaker.

World No 7 Marin Cilic, 29, Serbia, entered the fourth round on September 2, 2018, by defeating World No 45  Alex de Minaur, 19, Australia, in a five-set marathon 4-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. Cilic staged a tremendous comeback after losing the first two sets. Cilic fired 14 Aces in the match to 4 by Minaur. Both the players committed 9 double faults each. Cilic won 8 break points while Minaur won 7. Both the players won 4 games each in a row.
