Patna : Chasing a target of 359, England were 90/2 in their second innings at tea on Day 3 in the 3rd Ashes Test against Australia with captain Joe Root unbeaten on 41 in 97 balls with 3 fours and Joe Denly batting on 30 in 92 balls with 5 fours at Headingley, Leeds, UK, on August 24, 2019. Root and Denly have so far added 75 runs in 189 balls for the 3rd wicket.England need 269 runs to win the test.

England lost their first wicket when opener Rory Burns fell to fast bowler Josh Hazlewood for 7 when the team score was 15. At the same score his opening partner Jason Roy fell to fast bowler Pat Cummins for 8. Auustralian fast bowlers : Josh Hazlewood, Patna Cummins, and James Pattinson were fire bowling fiery spells with speed ranging from 85 mph to 90 mph though without much success on August 24.

Earlier resuming at their overnight score of 171/6, Australia were all out for 246 in their second innings with Marnus Labuschagne scoring 80 (run out) while James Pattinson scored 20. Pattinson fell to fast bowler Jofra Archer.  Pat Cummins fell to Ben Stokes for 6 while spinner Nathan Lyon fell to Archer for 9. Australia had scored 179 in their first innings.

For England, who collapsed tobe all out for just 67 in their first innings, Ben Stokes took 3/56 while Jofra Archer took 2/40. Stuard Broad took 2/52. Chris Woakes and spinner Jack Leach took one wicket each.
