Ara : About 3,700 government employees, under the banner of Bihar Rajya Arajpatrit Karmchari Mahasangh,  Arajpatrit Karmchari Sangh (Gope faction), Anubandh-Mandey Niyojit Sewakarmi Sanyukt Morcha and Bihar Rajya Karyapalak Sahaayak Sewa Sangh, continued their strike for the second consecutive day on June 30, 2017 to press their 13 point charter of demands including amendments in the provisions of the Seventh Pay Commission. They staged dharana in front of the office of the Bhojpur District Magistrate to press their demands.

The employees took out a procession that passed through the main thoroughfares of Ara town and culminated at the gate of  Ara Collectorate. They also paralysed working at the Collectorate, Ara Block Office, Registration Office, Ara Sadar Hospital, South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited office and other government offices.

At Ara Sadar Hospital, the patients coming from remote corners had to return disappointed as functioning of OPD, maternity ward and other units remained paralysed. Even the newborn children admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Sadar Hospital were not properly nursed. The efforts of the Deputy Superintendent, Ara Sadar Hospital, Dr Satish Kumar Sinha to restore OPD service failed.

The demands of the employees include amendment the provisions of the seventh pay commission, cash payment of the seventh pay commission recommendation from January 1, 2016, end of  contract system and regularisation of the service of contract employees and a  minimum wages of Rs 18,000.
