Motihari : A Scooty rally was taken out on May 3, 2019, under all 27 blocks of East Champaran district to ensure and enhance the participation of voters particularly women in the Lok Sabha elections on May 12 ,2019. This rally of girls and women was organised under Child Development Project with hundreds of women riding Scooty participating at the rally in Motihari town.
Organised on the direction of DM, East Champaran, Raman Kumar, the rally passed through every street of the town raising slogans and asking voters to vote to elect the best candidate for the Purvi Champaran Lok Sabha seat. The rally was very successful in attracting the womenfolk for the first time.
The East Champaran district, the second largest district of Bihar comprises 12 assembly segments of six assembly segments
fall under Purvi Champaran Parliamentary constituency, three under Paschimi Champaran PC, and rest three under Sheohar PC. The three PCs will go to poll in the 6th phase on May 12, 2019.
As only 58 % polling was recorded in 2014 Paliamentary elections, so a variety of programmes are being organised by Ssystematic voter’s education and electoral participation (SVEEP) cell in the district to ensure maximum participation of voters in the election. DM Raman Kumar has toured on cycle with other officials to remote villages meeting the voters at their doorstep and on roads urging them to exercise their franchise in Lok Sabha elections.
DM Raman Kumar also took part in wheat harvesting with farmers and labourers and exhorted them to go to polling
booths to cast their votes. The district administration has taken initiatives to create awareness among women and first
time voters apart from senior citizens and those with physical disabilities.
