Patna : World No 1 and top seed Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, and World No 7 Kei Nishikori, 29, Japan, entered the quarter-finals (QFs) of French Open winning their respective 4th round matches at Roland Garros, Paris, France, on June 3, 2019.

Djokovic brushed aside World No 45 Jan-Lenard Struff, 29, Germany, in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in the 4th round. Djokovic, the 2016 champion, broke Struff’s service 5 times in the match besides winning 7 games in a row. The Serbian won 55 service points to 40 by the German. Djokovic fired 6 Aces in the match to 4 by the German.

Nishikori defeated World No 38 Benoit Paire, 30, France, in a five-set marathon 6-2, 6-7, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 in 3hr 55 minutes to advanced to the QFs of the clay court event, a Grand Slam tournament, for the third time. The match was suspended on June 2, 2019, late night, after three sets. Nishikori broke Paire’s service 10 times in the match while the latter broke his service 5 times. Nishikori won 6 games in a row to 3 by Paire. Paire though fired 8 Aces in the match to 3 by Nishikori.

Nishikori will face World No 2 and defending champion RafaelĀ  Nadal in the QFs on June 4, 2019, while World No 3 Roger Federer, Switzerland, will face Stan Wawrinka, Switzerland, in another QFs.
