Patna : World No 8 Ashleigh Barty, 23, Australia, and World No 14 Madison Keys, 24, USA, entered the women’s quarter-finals (QFs) of French Open on June 3, 2019, winning their respective 4th round matches at Roland Garros, Paris, France. Madison Keys had reached semi-finals of French Open in 2018 and semi-finals of Australian Open in 2015. Barty had reached QFs of Australian Open in January 2019.

Barty beat World No 35 Sofia Kenin, 20, USA, in three-sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in the 4th round. Barty hammered 11 Aces in the match to just 1 by Kenin, who had defeated winner of 23 Grand Slam singles Serena Williams in the third round on June 1. Barty broke Kenin’s service 5 times in the match while the latter broke her service twice. The Australian won 6 games in a row in the match to 3 by the American.

Keys, the 2017 US Open finalist, beat World No 42 Katerina Siniakova, 23, Czech Republic, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the QFs of the clay court event. Keys broke Siniakova’s service 5 times in the match while the latter broke her service twice. Keys won 3 games in a row in the match to 2 by the Czech. The American won 40 service points to 26 by Siniakova. Keys will play Barty in the QFs on June 5, 2019.
