Patna : World No 3 in ATP rankings and 2009 champion Juan Martin del Porto, 29, Argentina, and World No 6 and twice champion Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, will clash in the men’s singles final of US Open championship at Flushing Meadows, New York, on September 10, 2018.

Del Porto reached the final after World No 1 and defending champion Rafael Nadal retired in their semi-finals match trailing two sets to love on September 8, 2018.  Del Porto was leading 7-6, 6-2 when Nadal retired due to pain in knee. Nadal said that it was very difficult for him to say goodbye to the match in the third set. Three-time champion Nadal said that he was not feeling well from the beginning of the first set. Nadal wished well Delpo best of luck in the final. Delpo has reached his first US Open final since 2009.

Djokovic, who won the US Open title in 2011 and 2014, beat Kei Nishikori, 28, Japan, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals. Djokovic is reigning Wimbledon champion and winner of 13 Grand Slam titles. Djokovic won 4 break points in the match. Both the players committed 2 double faults each in the match.
