Patna : Seven-time champion and World No 2 Novak Djokovic, Serbia, 2018 finalist Marin Cilic, Croatia, World No 14 Diego Schwartzman, Argentina, 22nd seed Guido Pella, Argentina, and World No 35 Milos Raonic, Canada, reached the 3rd round of Australian Open (AO) 2020 at Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on January 22, 2o20.
Defending Champion Novak Djokovic beat World No 146 Tatsuma Ito, Japan, a Wild Card entry, in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in 2nd round winning 5 break points. The Serbian hammered 16 Aces in the match to 9 by Ito. Djokovic though also committed 5 double faults in the match to 1 by the Japanese. Djokovic also won 5 games in a row in the match.

Diego Schwartzman, 27, the 14th seed, beat World No 88 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, 20, Spain, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in 2nd round. Schwartzman won 7 break points to 2 by the Spaniard. Schwartzman committed 5 double faults to 3 by Fokina. But, he also won 55 service points to 39 by Fokina.
Milos Raonic, the 32nd seed, beat World No 36 Cristian Garin, 23, Chile, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in 2nd round winning 4 break points besides winning 5 games in a row. Raonic hammered 19 Aces in the match to just 2 by Garin. The Canadia won 58 service points to 42 by Garin.
Guido Pella, the 22nd seed, beat World No 84 Gregoire Barrere, 25, France, 6-1, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to enter the third round. Pella won 5 break points to 2 by Barrere. He also won 5 games in a row to 3 by Barrere. Pella fired 6 Aces in the match to 3 by the French.
World No 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 21, Freeece, entered the 3rd round after his second round opponent and World No 79 Philipp Kohlschreiber, 36, Germany, retired before the match.
