Patna : Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, won his third US Open title September 9, 2018, late night, defeating 2009 champion Juan Martin del Porto in the final in straight sets. This is his 14th Grand Slam title and second of the year after his Wimbledon triumph. He is now three Grand Slam title behind World No 1 Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, and six behind World No 2 Roger Federer, 37, Switzerland.
Djokovic beat del Porto 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in the final at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Flushing Meadows, New York. Delpo fired 6 Aces in the match to just 1 by Djokovic. Djokovic also committed 3 double faults to just 1 by Delpo in the match. But, Djokovic won 4 break points to 2 by Delpo. Both the players won 3 games each in a row. But, Djokovic’s winning percentage ( 62 %) on his second serve was much better than that of Delpo ( 52%).
Djokovic had had earlier won the US Open Title in 2011 and 2015. He won Wimbledon titles in 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2018 besides winning Australian Open title in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016. He won French Open singles title in 2016. Djokovic lives at Monte Carlo, Monaco.
