Delay in fund allotment affecting construction of toilets in Koelwar

Ara : Delay in allotment of fund for construction lavatories is coming in the way of Koelwar Nagar Panchayat in Bhojpur district being declared Open Defecation Free (ODF). At least 1,863 applications were accepted for the construction of lavatories under Koelwar Nagar Panchayat from 2015 till date but only 832 lavatories have been constructed so far of which 570 beneficiaries are yet to get the second installment of the fund.

Out of 1,863 applicants 832 beneficiaries were given Rs 7,500 as first installment for the construction of lavatory while 262 beneficiaries were given Rs 4,500 as second installment after some time but 570 beneficiaries are yet to get second installment despite construction of lavatories. The Nagar Panchayat had received Rs 63,36,000 for the construction of lavatories for the two fiscals.

Chairman, Nagar Panchayat, Koelwar, Binod Kumar, said that the target will be achieved soon and  all the beneficiaries will be given amount for the construction of lavatories at a  camp before August 15, 2017. He further said that ward Nos. 2, 7, 9, 10, 12 and 13 will be declared ODF very soon.

Meanwhile, Bhojpur DM Birendra Prasad Yadav has directed the block officials to form a committee in each and every ward for the success of the Lohia Swachchhta Abhiyan so that the district may be declared  ODF.
