Sasaram : A police constable Umakant, who was put in the ‘haazat’ at Nokha police station in Rohtas district after he entered a house with wrong intention on August 5 night, fired on the Munshi on August 6, 2018, evening, when he went to serve him food. When he missed his target, he shot himself and was seriously injured.

Police admitted him to Sadar Hospital, Sasaram,  but the doctors referred him to Varanasi, UP, in view of his critical condition. Umkant is a resident of Dev Khatkari in Aurangabad district and was posted at Dharmpura police outpost (OP).

ASP Rajesh Kumar said that Umakant had entered a house with wrong intention on August 5, 2018, night and the villagers caught and thrashed him. On getting information, SHO, Dharmpura police outpost, Ganga Sagar Singh came to his rescue and seeing the anger of villagers, the SHO put Umakant in the haazat at Nokha police station.

Rohtas SP Satyaveer Singh said that Umakant was not taking his food on August 6 evening and when the Munshi asked him to eat, he took the food but later snatched the revolver from the Munshi and fired on him. He, however, missed his target and then shot himself on his head.

The SP said that Umakant was appointed in 2015 and was to complete three years in service on August 11, 2018. A named FIR has been lodged against Umakant on the statement of Ashok Bharati, Mukhia, Nonsari panchayat in Rohtas district.
