Gopalganj: A Class 10 student Sriniwas Yadav (17) was crushed to death at village Dewapur under Barauli police station in Gopalganj district on February 4. The mishap took place when Sriniwas, son of Jagdish Yadav of Koinee  Bazaar Tola under Manjha police station, was on way to Barauli on his bike to purchase books.

Locals said that as Sriniwas reached Dewapur, a speeding truck coming from opposite direction hit the bike, killing Sriniwas on the spot. The truck driver escaped from there leaving the vehicle on the spot. On getting information, local SHO Chandrika Prasad reached the spot and sent the body to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital. The truck was seized by  police. Movement of vehicles on NH-28 remained paralysed for over an hour due to the road mishap.

As the news of Sriniwas’s death reached his village, a pal of gloom descended there. He had left his house and told his mother Phoolmati Devi that he would first visit the in-laws’ house of his elder brother at Dewapur and then Barauli to purchase his books. The deceased’s mother fell unconscious after getting the news while his father and his family members were shocked over the incident. The deceased was the youngest among four brothers and was a student of Bhaisahi High School and was to appear in matriculation examination this year.
