Bagaha : A large number of  sugarcane growers of riverine area of rivera Gandak in Bgaha on February 4 staged demonstration before SDM office, Bagaha, in West Champaaran district. They were protesting pontoon bridge toll tax of Rs 20 per loaded cane cart.

The demonstration was led by Surendar Kushwaha and Ambika Kushwaha. The sugarcane growers alleged that toll tax from was never charged from cane growers while General Manager (personnel) of the Tirupati sugars mill YS Bhatanagar said that the poentoon bridge over river Gandak was restored by a contractor, who charge the toll from cane growers that was also realised the previous year.

Bagaha SDM Dharmendar Kumar said that he has called for report from trans Gandak river Circle officers (COs)including that of Piparasi and  Madhubani anchals by February 5 to know whether toll tax was realised or not 0from cane growers last year. The SDM said that after getting the report from COs,  he will hold a meeting with the sugarcane growers and sugar mill management on February 6 to solve the problem.
