Patna : Reigning World Champion P V Sindhu, 24, India, lost her second successive Group match in HSBC BWF World Tour Finals at Guangzhou, China, on December 12, 2019. World No 2 and All England Open Champion Chen Yu Fei, 21, China, beat World No 6 Sindhu 20-22, 21-16, 21-12 in 72 minutes in their Group A match at Tianhe Gymnasium, Guangzhou, coming from behind..

Chen Yu Fei won 62 rallies in the match to 50 by Sindhu. She won 6 consecutive points to 5 by the Indian. Sindhu, however, still leads Yu Fei 6-4 Head to Head. Sindhu had lost her first match to World No 4 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, in three games on December 11, 2019.  Chen Yu Fei, on the other hand, had defeated World No 7 HE Bing Jiao, China, in her first Group match on December 11.

World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, 25, Chinese Gaipei, defeated World No 5 Ratchanok Intanon, 24, Thailand, 11-21, 21-18, 21-16 in 59 minutes battling back from one game down in their Group B match. Ti Tzu won 53 rallies in the match to 55 by Intanon, the 2013 World Champion. She won 4 consecutive points to 7 by Intanon. But, Intanon still leads Tai Tzu 14-13 Head to Head. Tai Tzu had lost her first Group match to World No 3 Nozomi Okuhara, Japan, in three-games on December 11.

Nozomi Okuhara, Japan, beat World No 16 Busanan Ongbamrungphan, Thailand, 21-12, 21-10 in 38 minutes in her second Group match. She has won both her Group A matches.
