Patna : In an apparent move to check the trend of lodging of counter FIRs by the accused to protect themselves and harass the victims, DIG, Central Range, Rajesh Kumar, on August 1, 2018, directed  the SHO of all police station under the range not to lodge a counter FIR by accused in a case of violence or victimisation, 10 hours after the incident.

DIG Kumar on August 1 said that during review of the cases, he had noticed that in  many cases the accused lodge counter FIR one or two days after they have been made accused in a case lodged by the victim. This despite the fact that police had already visited the place of occurrence and initiated action against the accused, the DIG said.

The DIG said that the accused lodge a counter FIR to protect themselves and harass the victims to force them to reach a compromise. This delays justice to the victims, he said adding in many cases the role of the police stations concerned has been found to be questionable and suspicious. The DIG  has asked the SHOs to arrest the accused if prima facie they appear to be involved in the crime.
