Cancellation of direct trains from Gorakhpur to Muzaffarpur annoys people

Bagaha: Resentment prevails among people of West Champaran district particularly of Bagaha over cancellation of direct passenger trains services from Gorakhpur Junction to Muzaffarpur Junction instead of extension of other trains to this rail section.

According to new rail timetable introduced on October 2, 2016, six pairs of passenger trains bearing number 55081, 55041, 55073, 55089, 55071 and 55029 Up and 55042, 55072, 55080, 55082, 55030 and 55074 Dn are running from Gorakhpur junction to Narakatiaganj via Bagaha rail section while two direct passenger trains for Muzaffarpur and Sonepur have been cancelled.

Now no direct train is available for West Champaran district headquarters, Bettiah, where a large number of people go and return from Bagaha, Khairpokhara, Bhairoganj, Ramnagar and Chamuya rail stations daily, if they miss the link train due to delayed arrival at Narakatiaganj junction. They have to wait for 3 to 4 hours to catch another train for Bettiah or other destinations. This causes a lot of problems to litigants, daily commuters and government employees. Majority of them have to opt for private buses at a higher cost.

Neresh Ram, general Secretary of district congress committee unit, Bagaha, claimed that the UPA government always gave priority to West Champaran but Modi government has deprived the people of the district of the facilities given to them in UPA regime. A CPI(Ml) leader Dayanand said that West Champaran district had sent two BJP MPs to Lok Sabha yet the region was being neglected by Railway ministry. Meanwhile, an all party worker meeting held on October 15 decided to stage dharna at Bagaha rail station on October 23 for extension of direct passenger trains to the region.
