Patna :The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing into the leakage of questions of clerical grade examination conducted by Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC), arrested the BSSC Chairman Sudhir Kumar from Hazaribagh,  late February 23, 2017, night. Sudhir Kumar is a 1987 batch IAS officer and is a Principal Secretary rank officer. Bihar DGP P K Thakur confirmed the arrest of BSSC Chairman Sudhir Kumar. Bihar government has already cancelled the exam.

The SIT has also arrested his brother, a college teacher. The SIT had earlier arrested BSSC Secretary Parmeshwar Ram in this connection. It had also quizzed Sudhir Kumar earlier a couple of times. The owner of the printing press, where question papers were printed, V K Agrawal, has also been arrested from Ahmedabad. Sudhir Kumar’s nephew and his wife, who also appeared at the exam, too have been taken into custody. A senior police officer said holding free and fair exam was the responsibility of BSSC Chairman Kumar.

Meanwhile, IAS Officers’ Association, Bihar branch, has strongly criticised the arrest of one of its senior member Sudhir Kumar,  and demanded his immediate release. A delegation of the association met Bihar Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, on February 24 and apprised him of its concerns. The association has also decided to meet Bihar CM Nitish Kumar in this connection. The association said it is deeply angered and anguished by the manner in which the SIT arrested the officer.

” The association will fight tooth and nail for the cause of Mr Kumar who is among the most honest, sincere and competent officer of the cadre. It has decided to bear all the legal and other related expenses on his behalf. The association stands by his credentials and there is no reason for it to believe that any criminal mens rea could ever be assigned to Mr Kumar. His arrest is absolutely unwarranted. The association strongly demands that the matter be transferred to the CBI in the interest of justice, independence and fair play,” said IAS Officers’ Association, Bihar Branch, on February 24.
