Law Kumar Mishra
Patna: Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Saturday cancelled the affiliation of Vishnudeo Rai Intermediate College, Bhagwanpur, in Vaishali district, 25 km from here on charges of largescale irregularities at the Intermediate examinations. It also cancelled the results of two toppers: Saurabh Shresth and Rahul Prabhakar, who had got first and third positions respectively at the Intrmediate Science examinations this year. Arts topper of the state Ruby Rai has again been asked to appear for test on June 11 as her result is also doubtful. She did not appear for test and interview on Friday claiming she was ill.
Since 2005, the students of Vishnudeo Rai College had been getting top positions at the Inter examinations. Last year too, its students had topped the examinations. This year too b0th Arts and Science toppers were from this college.
The BSEB had called the 14 top scorers of both Science and Arts examinations for fresh tests and interview at its office, where they were given five sets of questions and were interviewed by the teachers of respective subjects. Eleven students could satisfy the examiners but the toppers failed. The Board after five hours long meeting with the experts decided to cancel the examination of the toppers and withdrew their results. It also decided to cancel affiliation granted to the college.
BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh said the state government is being requested to set up a judicial inquiry commission headed by a retired judge of Patna High Court to probe the affairs of the college.
The management of the college had supported the RJD during the last assembly elections and its chairman was seen campaigning for RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s son Tejparatp ,currently heath minister, in his Mahua assembly constitutency in Vaishali district. Bachcha Rai, principal of the college, is himself an office-bearer of the RJD. State education minister Ashok Kumar Chaudhury said the board may institute FIRs against the examiners and officials responsible for the unfair practice and manipulation in answer – sheets.
In 2005, all the 370 students of the college had passed in first division.This year,the average result of the state was 67 % but of this college it was 97.52%. Last year too, its student had topped the Inter science examination.
