Bokaro ( Jharkhand) : Bokaro deputy commissioner (DC) R M Ray on Septembr 21 into the reasons behind six persons including five kids falling seriously ill after consuming  ready to eat food product.  Six persons including five  kids of Budhutand  (Bendi) community centre of Sidhabara panchayat in naxal infested Gomia area, 90 km away from Bokaro steel city, were rushed to Rajendra institute of medical science (RIMS), Ranchi, on September 20 after they fell ill after consuming  ‘ready to eat packed food’ given to them.

All the six, who fell ill  after consuming the packed food, had taken it from the community centre on September 20 around 10 am. Their condition started deteriorating two hours after having the packed food. When they reached home, they became unconscious after which  they were rushed to Gomia  health  centre where the attending doctor  Dr  Mohammad Mushtak referred them to RIMS, Ranchi. Condition of two kids- 5 year old Sunita Kumari and 12 year old Pradip Marandi  is stated to be  still serious. Those falling included  Lucky Kumari, 2, Saraswati Kumari, 2, Sunita Kumari, 5, Pradip Marandi, 12, Santosh Marandi, 2, and Malti Devi, 35.

According to CDPO Sunita Karketta, all those who fell sick  were given  ready to eat packed food as mid day meal is not cooked at the Anganwadi community centre due to shortage of staff. When contacted, Gomia  health centre’s Dr Mushtaq stated that it was a case of food poisoning  and seeing the bad condition of as all six, they were referred to RIMS. Bokaro 20 point programme vice chairman  Laxman Nayak demanded high level inquiry into the incident.
