Patna : World No 27 Bianca Andreescu, 19, Canada, won the women’s singles title at Rogers Cup at Toronto, Canada, after her opponent in the final and World No 10 Serena Williams, 37, USA, retired due to injury in the 5th game of the first set on August 11, 2019, late night, trailing 1-3.

Bianca had broken Serena’s service in the 3rd game of the first set and then held her own to lead 3-1 when the American retired. Bianca was the first woman from Canada to reach the final of Rogers Cup. She had women’s singles title at Indian Wells, USA, in March 2019. Bianca’s ranking will improve considerably in WTA rankings to be released  on August 12, 2019, after her winning the Rogers Cup title.
