Ara: Bhojpur district celebrated its 45th foundation day at Veer Kuer Singh Stadium at Ramana Maidan on Thursday with much fanfare. The foundation day function was organized by Bhojpur district administration.

Though the district administration had invited almost all the MLAs, MLCs, MP and others but only RJD MLAs: Nawaz Alam, Arun Kumar, Prabhunath Prasad, Ram Kishun Singh and CPI(ML) MLA Sudama Prasad and MLC Radha Charan Sah, Mayor, Ara Municipal Corporation (AMC), Suil Kumar and District Board Chairperson Aarti Devi attended the function. Chairman, Bihar Legislative Council, Awadhesh Narayan Singh, Ara MP R K Singh, Barhara MLA Saroj Yadav, Shahpur MLA Rahul Tiwari, MLC Sanjeev Shayam Singh and Ran Vijay Singh were not present. Even Labour Resource Department Minister cum in-harge minister, Bhojpur district, Vijay Prakash, who was to inaugurate the function, did not turn up.

In the absence of the minister, MLAs: Sudama Prasad, Nawaz Alam and Ram Kishun Singh jointly inaugurated the function. They also released doves and balloons in the air. The students of Dr Nemichand Girls High School  presented ‘Bharatiyam’.

Speaking on the occasion, MLAs Nawaz Alam and Arun Yadav said that Bhojpur is a historical district and famous in the world. They highlighted achievements and appreciated the efforts of district administration in  implementing the welfare schemes of the government. CPI(ML) MLA Sudama Prasad said that economy of the district is based on agriculture but the farmers remain a neglected lot. He demanded support price of Rs 2,500 for per quintal paddy and Rs 500 bonus for the farmers. Mayor AMC Sunil Kumar said that the government had allotted Rs 74 crore for making lavatories in town area and added that the AMC has planned to make Ara ODF by 2017.

Earlier, at least 5,000 boys and girls of different schools took out a ‘prabhat pheri’ in the morning from Ramana Maidan that passed through the main thoroughfares of the town. DM Birendra Prasad Yadav flagged off the ‘Prabhat pheri’.
